A free, family-fun event celebrating National Train Day!
Portland
Union Station will be hosting its 3rd annual National
Train Day event on Saturday, May 8th, 2010. This event is a great
opportunity
for people to learn more about their local train station and what
trains serve the area. Vintage railroad equipment, railroad items,
giveaways, prizes, informational exhibits and travel ideas will be on
display along with entertainment.
Getting
there: Portland Union Station is located in NW Portland
near the Willamette River between the Steel and Broadway Bridges.

are encouraged to take an Amtrak or MAX train, however, there is a
hourly/daily parking garage on NW 9th Avenue across the street from
station platforms.
Amtrak
Cascades: Visitors from the I-5 corridor between Seattle
and Eugene have multiple Amtrak trains to choose from. Those south of
Portland can take trains #504 and #507 to get to/from this event.
Visitors from north of Portland can take train #501 and #508. See
schedule at Amtrak Cascades!
Friends
of SP 4449 will
have a booth at this event. Steam locomotive SP #4449 is scheduled to
appear, though no further details are available. This is a great
opportunity for the
public to meet
face-to-face with SP 4449 and Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation
volunteers to learn more about ORHF's progress on building a new home
for Portland's three steam locomotives in SE Portland.
Other railroad organizations will be at this event along with local
sponsors.
