Can we see the 4449 at the roundhouse?
As much as we'd like to, we cannot invite the public for tours due to liability and safety concerns. The locomotive is inside a locked facility on the Union Pacific Railroad, and there are no public roads or sidewalks that reach to this secluded location. An active intermodal facility surrounds our area, and we ask that you respect the railroad's private property by not trespassing. This situation only reinforces ORHF's mission to build a new home for Portland's three steam locomotives, which would then be open for the public to see. Thank you for being safe!
When is your next excursion?
We're always working to run an excursion or make a special appearance, however that can take up to 2-3 years of planning as well as obtaining approvals and insurance. When a public trip is announced, available information will be posted on this website. If a trip is sponsored by a private group or company who wishes to keep mum on the schedule, we can't provide additional information.

Have you wanted to volunteer your time and skills, but don't know where to get started?
The Friends of 4449 needs help -- We have many on-going projects that need additional volunteers to work on, such as passenger cars and track equipment. The steam locomotive is in great condition and does not need any immediate work, however, pieces of rolling stock and related support equipment are in need of people interested in working on them.
The next five years will be defining years for this organization as we move out of Brooklyn and into a new facility. Sustainable operations are being worked on, and we are calling for new volunteers to get involved in the bigger picture. If you have any questions or interested in getting involved, email
4449 President Mark Kramer with an introduction, your interests and work experience, and how you'd like to contribute to this organization.
